The Trauma-Informed Ikigai Coaching is an approach designed to activate essential ingredients within the person to assist them to find and work towards their ikigai, from a trauma-informed perspective.
The concept of ikigai is said to have evolved from the basic health and wellness principles of traditional Japanese medicine. This medical tradition holds that physical wellbeing is affected by one’s mental–emotional health and sense of purpose in life.
Do any of these sound like you?
- Negative thoughts, patterns, and habits keep you from moving forward in life
- You lack confidence in yourself, cultivate self-doubt, have a fear of being judged or criticised by others online and off
- You envision leading a purpose-led lifestyle with meaning, opportunity, and incredible experiences, attracting abundance, success, and freedom!
- Daily life gets in the way of your dreams, you’re unhappy, unfulfilled, and whenever you start moving toward your goals, something else gets in the way
- Whenever things don’t go right, you feel like giving up!
- You’re tired of constantly people-pleasing, living life based on others, wishing it were different
Why ikigai?
Ikigai has been shown to reduce anxiety and improve resilience (Ishida, 2008), and enhance self-esteem and acceptance of adversity (Kamiya, 2004), amongst many other favourable outcomes.
Having ikigai helps to better cope with stressful psychological events from the past, present, and future with less conflict or confusion (Ishida & Okada, 2011).
Ikigai also resonates with Cognitive–Behavioral Therapy’s emphasis on pursuing activities that produce enjoyment and a sense of mastery, specifically as a way to alleviate depressive disorder.
